Living Below the Line for one week
For over a billion people living in poverty globally, with under £1 with which to feed themselves daily, the problem of world hunger is a huge one. It’s not something that UK residents often have to face (though even in the UK the use of food banks is growing astronomically).
That’s why I thought I’d try and face the £1 challenge this week – 5 days and only £1 a day for food and drink. The concept is originally set up by Live Below the Line, but I decided to give to farm Africa, because for one thing Live Below the Line has seemingly ‘shut’ for 2014, and also because I’d rather support a sectarian charity.

1.4 billion people globally live on less than £1 per day. The idea is to try and do this for just 5 short days, and donate what you’d normally spend on your food and drinks bills to a food/poverty charity. Find out more at Live Below the Line, linked in the first line, or Google it.
It’s going to be hard. We’re lucky, as we have the awesome Leeds Markets on our doorstep, where we can get beautiful fresh fruit and veg (as well as fish and meat, but probably not this week!) on demand. Leeds Markets are particularly wonderful, but I’d suggest giving your local market a good go – you can save an awful lot of money, support English farming (ask your supplier where their stock is from) and support local, small businesses.
